In an effort to boost sluggish sales of its 3DS console, Nintendo are cutting the price to £180 from the figure of around £230, in anticipation many retailers have already implemented the price reduction in an effort to increase their sales.
In a statement made this morning, the video games giant said “Nintendo of Europe will be reducing the European trade price of Nintendo 3DS to retailers by around a third from 12th August 2011, as part of a global trade price reduction initiative. The ultimate price to consumers is, of course, determined by retailers, however we look forward to consumers benefiting from much lower retail prices very soon.”

For people who are already buying the product, Nintendo will be offering an “Ambassador Programme” to consumers who purchased the 3DS before 12 August. The programme will enable these Nintendo 3DS owners to download 10 NES games and 10 Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games for free.

Last week the new Nintendo DSi handheld gaming console was released in the UK. The new device has been revamped and Nintendo is hoping for the new console to maintain its handheld console dominance.

The original Nintendo DS sold over 100 million devices worldwide and the new DSi is set to continue the trend. The DSi continues the same form factor of the original device, sporting the familiar folding style with two screens; the screens are slightly bigger: 3.25 inches compared to the 3 inches on the DS.

The Nintendo DSi is also 12% thinner than the DS and has two integrated cameras; a rear mounted 3 megapixel camera and a front facing VGA camera mounted on the hinge. There is also an advanced audio player to listen to your favourite tracks.

Nintendo has also stated that it will be extending their application shop, which will have programs specially made for the DSi for a small fee, and the DSi has an SD card slot to store them on.

Although the DSi is an upgrad from the original DS there are some downsides; the charging cable has been changed, so owners of the DS and DS Lite cannot use their cables as spares. The front mounted VGA camera is only a woeful 0.3 megapixels and probably won’t be used that much and the device is now no longer compatible with GameBoy Advance games.

The Nintendo DSi is available now in either white or black for £149.99 from all major retailers.

After the success of the Nintendo DS and DS Lite devices, having sold nearly 78 million worldwide, Nintendo has announced a new and improved device the DSi. The new Nintendo DSi looks similar to the previous models and now has two 3.25 inch screens instead of the 3 inch ones found on the DS and DS Lite.

The DSi is 12 percent thinner that the original DS, thanks to the omission of the GBA cartridge slot, which is now replaced with an SD card slot. Other additions include a front facing VGA camera (on the hinge when folded open) and a rear mounted 3 megapixel camera to take those spontaneous pictures.

Nintendo has also said that it will be extending its software and applications shop. The DSi shop will offer software and applications especially designed for the DSi and can be bought using points. The software will range from 200 points to 800 points per item; with new DSi owners being given 1000 points for free.

The Nintendo DSi will also have an advanced audio player built-in, so you can listen to your favourite music on the move. The DSi will be available in Black and White and is set for release in Japan on the 1st of November. The rest of the world will unfortunately have to wait until early 2009 to get their hands on one.
