What is on your Christmas list this year? If you are amongst the 18 to 34 years olds then it is likely that you will be asking for a tech gadget and what’s going to be the hottest tech gadget this holiday shopping season is a question? That is probably easily answered, the iPad. This tablet ranked highest, followed by a laptop, HDTV set, Kindle or e-reader, and an iPod or MP3 player amongst those who were asked the question.

It looks as though impending problems with the economy and the possibility of high unemployment will not deter buyer this year and the continued appetite for tech gadgets looks like continuing. Many people will look to savings in other directions, lower cost holiday, cheaper options on travel and cutting back on those nights out, the tech gadget will still remain king!

60 years ago things were very different people didn’t have today’s advances in technology particularly mobile ‘phones which we all now take for granted. In those days making a telephone call was made through a fixed landline or a bulky radio telephone and radio was the main form of entertainment outside of the cinema.

By the end of that decade TV was in most homes but it came in with a big box supporting all the electronic gadgets and the large picture tube. Now TV’s are really cool with slim or TFT devices and plasma screens that give remarkable imagery, the very latest being high definition or HD which have remarkably sharp pictures, a million miles away from the sets of only a few years ago. It is not just the advances in technology that have given us these slim sharp images, the cost has fallen dramatically. By searching through comparison sites it is now possible to buy a modern TV for what amounts to a week’s wage which is a far cry from the cost of a set in times past which would have set you back a month or two wage packet.

The arrival of high-definition has brought a new format for watching our television programmes as well as the movies we watch at home through DVD players. We now demand this enhanced quality and it has arrived through Blu-ray. While Blu-ray has been somewhat slow to gain the acceptance enjoyed by DVD, with competition driving down prices for Blu-ray players and a greater selection of movies and TV shows that are now available, has led to increased adoption of this format.

Blu-ray Players will deliver sights and sounds so rich and vivid it will leave your old DVD player gathering dust. The only problem that may arise is knowing which Blu-ray Player to choose. Most of the major manufacturers that were associated with the DVD player are now making Blu-ray player so a quick check but it is worth remembering that as will any new technology new models are being brought to the market and manufacturers are constantly adapting and changing these to bring you the ultimate Home Movie experience. Once oyu have experienced Blu-ray though, you will never go back.

A couple of weeks ago Panasonic announced that its new HDC-SDT750 would be the first consumer 3d camcorder, but it seems that a German company called Aiptek has beaten them to the punch by releasing their portable HD 3D camcorder.

The Aiptek HD 3D can’t really be compared to the Panasonic in terms of class, but for a sneak peak at what 3D can do it’s well worth it. The Aiptek HD 3D uses two separate lenses to capture in 3D which can be viewed straight back on the 2.4 inch 3D display.

Movies can also be played back via HDMI to a 3D enabled TV, but if you don’t own one the files can be converted to view on a standard screen with the bundled software, but you’ll have to don the supplied glasses to see it in 3D.

The HD 3D camcorder can also shoot movies in 2D at 720p and capture still images at 5 megapixels; an SD card slot is built in and can support up to 32GB, giving around 800 minutes of video time.

The Aiptek HD 3D is available now for around £199.

Dell has announced the specs for its super-slim laptop the Adamo XPS, which has been given the title of the world’s thinnest laptop (but for how long is anyone’s guess). The Dell Adamo XPS has a 13.4 inch LED High-Definition screen and a striking, yet practical design.

To open the Adamo XPS, you must first open the latch by stroking your finger along the lids heat sensitive strip; the laptop will not open if you do not do this. Once opened the laptops unique folding mechanism comes into play that tilts the keyboard up toward the user (see picture below) and puts the screen to the optimum viewing position.

The Adamo XPS will come with a 1.4GHz Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor and 4GB of DDR3 memory and have a choice of 120GB, 250GB or 500GB solid state hard drives. Another cool feature of the Adamo XPS is that it has a full size keyboard with redesigned fonts bringing an extra bit of style and look to the device.

Connections as you would expect are pretty sparse with two USB sockets (one each side), a display port and headphone and mic sockets, but this should be enough for most users. The laptop is also Wi-Fi ready, so you can connect to the internet at home or on the move.

Dell hasn’t announced a release date or price yet, but states that it should be available before Christmas.

The Flip camcorder has been a sensation since it first hit the market and its newest device is set to be one of the must have gadgets this Christmas. The Flip UltraHD brings High-Definition videos to the masses with a minimum of fuss and sports a 2 inch TFT display and 120 minutes of record time.

In keeping with the other devices in the Flip range, The Flip UltraHD measures just 107 x 56 x 30mm and weighs 170 grams, comes with a built-in speaker and easy press buttons for recording and skipping between clips.

The unit takes just 4 seconds to power up meaning that you can capture spontaneous videos at an impressive 1280×720 resolution and the 2x digital zoom means that you can get even closer to the action.
