Philips HDD6320 30GB Mp3
This is such a stylish Mp3 player from Philips in the black piano finish that would it really matter if it was any good or not? The HDD6320 is though a very good Mp3 player with a massive 30GB HDD, allowing you to store up to 15,000 songs or 8,400 pictures. Not sure when anyone would have time to listen to all their songs or view all of their pictures that can be stored on the HDD6320 though?
The HDD6320 can handle Mp3’s, WMA’s, WAV’s and JPEG’s. One of the best features that is giving Apple a run for their money is the 2″, backlit LCD touch screen. This device uses Superscroll navigation that once you get used to it is great, making it easy to find the tracks that you want to listen to.
The battery life is fairly decent at 15 hours playback time, which is better that the Ipod. The Philips HDD6320 has a cool speed charge that gets it back to 70% battery power in just an hour. It has all of the usual additions such as a voice recorder, microphone, USB connection and an encoder that allows you to record directly off your stereo. Dimensions for you are (H) 10.4 x (W) 6.4 x (D) 1.6 cms. These are selling now for under £200.

You can get these online at various places, for instance Comet online are selling them for £195.70… so is Empire Direct. But the best we have managed to find is Amazon selling new ones for £149.99.

Software doesnt seem compatible with my PC. Windows recognises the player, Philips software, My Computer and Windows Media Player dont recognise it. This is the 2nd of the same MP3 player with the same problem.
Ive tried Philips new software off the site but still no luck. Can anyone help? I’ve emailed Philips again. It might just be my PC though i’ll have to try it on another one…

January 10th, 2006 at 2:28 pm
Hi all,
i have recently purchased a philips Hdd085 and so far so good, connected up to the PC easily, just wondering though, which format is best to rip cd’s into, is wma or mps and at what rate, the player is 3GB so i’ve got some room but not loads?? Also can anyone recomend a car cassette convertor, bought one but the sound quaility in the car is awful. Thanks
January 10th, 2006 at 3:26 pm
Jonathan James,
I’d suggest you convert to mp3 @ 128 kbps, it should be just enough. Without any noticeable loss of quality.
As for the cassete-cd converters. I’d say buy the most expensive one, it will probably have a better cassete head or something like that. Although you won’t achieve good quality anyway, it will still be bad ish - that’s afterall just a trick to drive the sound through the cassete player head, which cannot reproduce good quality.
January 10th, 2006 at 3:33 pm
thanks Martin
is there a quick way to convert wma to mp3 or will i have to rip them again, is Windows Media Player OK or is real player any better?
January 10th, 2006 at 4:06 pm
Querying any search engine for ‘wma to mp3 convert’ should give you loads of results.
But hey if you’ve got wma and mp3 files and the philips supports both of them why the hassle? Just upload them to the player. I doubt you will be able to make a lot of room by converting wma’s to mp3.
And if I’d have to choose between Windows Media Player and Real Player - I’d go for the first one, the realplayer is extremely rubbish in my opinion
Still the best player for me is Winamp, and you of course rip cd’s using it’s pretty simple settings.
Hope that helps

Does this player have drag and drop facility? All i want is a really simple MP3 player that will take files from any computer and doesnt need any software to run just like my 256k flash stick player. Will this work for me?
Cheers!

I’ve just got a HDD6320 for Christmas and was originally delighted with its looks and operating qualities. However 3 Months down the line after loading nearly 5,000 tracks from my CD Collection I can’t find almost half of them on the player. When searched via Synchro screen on Windows Media 10 they are there but cannot be found on any playlists or by accessing Artist, Album or Genre. Another big problem is the time it takes to both load or even exit Playlists - 6 Minutes plus. I think these problems are recognised faults either with some players or perhaps inherant in the device S/W as I heard of another player with the same faults. He’s on his third player/repair with the same faults.
To give Philips their due the helpline offered immediate repair if I could return it to their repair agents. A Courier arrived next day and I was told it would be returned within 10 days. I hope I have better luck than my friend but I will keep you posted.

is it possible to download skins for the phillips hdd6320???? it comes with the standard two but i was wondering if there are more available to download.
April 3rd, 2006 at 12:58 pm
As promised here is a follow up after repair of my HDD6320.
As good as their word the device got a speedy turn around. It arrived back by Courier on Friday 31st - picked up Monday and returned by Friday of same week - very impressed.
However my delight stopped there. I was eventually able to load all my tracks (now some 5,278 all told). Problem getting the device to recognise any play-lists at all. But after at least two repairs (via the Device Manager) and several Synchronisations I was able to get some 6 play-lists recognised.
Exactly the same problem as before experienced in that the play-lists took much too long to open (or close). The unit seems to hang up and the little blue clock freezes.
I have asked for a report of their findings and corrective action this time so again I will feed back to this site anything useful.
Has anyone else experienced similar problems with the HDD6320?
April 3rd, 2006 at 3:42 pm
Sheridan, sounds like you are having a bad time of it with your Philips HDD6320.
Chris, the only “skin” that seems available for the HDD6320 is a screen protector like the one available from i-nique, that’s an invisible shield for the screen.

HDD085 - Volume problems - Help!!
Just got this MP3 player - which I love. Downloaded all my tunes via media player - no hassle. Its all too quiet though - I have the volume on max and it aint loud enough for me. Tried different headphones - still the same. Does anyone know if the volume is restricted (Im pretty sure it is, ’cause when you turn it down to half way - the volume is practically all gone) I have already been on to Philips website and downloaded latest firmware - it aint made a blind bit of difference. Can anyone help me??
June 26th, 2006 at 7:07 pm
I have put about 20 jpeg files onto it but only one of them comes up. Is there any restrictions on size or anything. Please Help. Danny

thist player sucks…
due to a problem with the filedatabase u will have to recopy ur musik pretty often as the player wil not recognise the contetn of its musicfolder anymore.
makes me want to bash this little pice of shit against my wall.
ähhh…
no …
firmware update wont help
and: yes i serched for a sulution, the philips f.a.q got one: format the player and copy all over.
philips support sucks too.
them will call u back, but not even know theyr own f.a.q
dont tuch this, until you are somewhat stressresistant and got PLANTY time to spend with copying files
September 14th, 2006 at 4:22 pm
forgot to say:
the player got advantages, too
it looks great.
especialy in the dark
so if u want to have a player u can look at when u here your musik, this one actually may be the right one for you
November 17th, 2006 at 10:17 am
I agree this player looks and sounds great. However…….
I am now on my second player, after having sent my previous one back 4 times - each time taking 3-4 weeks for repairs. Three times for mechanical reasons, only one software related.
This new one still does not function properly, same software problems as the first. I have some 4,500 tracks to sync and it takes me hours. I can only copy a handful of tracks at a time, so you can imagine how long it takes. And then, the other day I plugged it in to re-charge the battery and the whole library list disappeared. The player registered only about 12gb of space remaining, so i cross checked via WMP and there were all my tracks still on the player, but no access. Si I’ve had to restart the sync. Only a quarter of the way through, so you can imagine how frustrated I am.
And as for pictures? Forget it. I can load them on, but the players still shows list empty. Maybe there’s a conflict with my PC.
My advice is DON’t touch this player. I wish I’d stuck with Creative. My Nomad Jukebox Zen Extra, although aesthetically vulgar, was extremely more reliable until I accidently dropped it.
April 15th, 2007 at 9:51 pm
I think I’ll avoid this player. the negatives, too expensive for what it does, lack of codec support, quiet volume… to many people here are saying the exactly the kind of things I don’t want to hear. I think there’s little left to choose from now - IAudio will be getting my £200 for a X5l if I can find one locally before I fly out of the country.
May 30th, 2007 at 8:58 pm
i was wondering if u can download different skins
August 3rd, 2007 at 9:50 pm

September 3rd, 2007 at 10:56 pm
I cracked my screen. Where can I get it fixed? Phillips keep setting dates to pick it up from my home and dont turn up. They p*** me off .
September 7th, 2007 at 8:07 pm
did anyone solve the problem of screen getting stuck on “loading”? Q16 and 17
November 8th, 2007 at 7:29 pm
I suffered from teething problems with syncing & errors in confirming remaining space. Basically sorted by visiting Philips site & following the instructions for emptying the player and hence forth using only Windows Media 10. Been excelent ever since though a better set of headphones has helped
November 30th, 2007 at 5:28 pm
I have cracked my screen on this player, does anyone know where I can get this repaired or buy a replacement screen and do it myself, I dont really want to send it to phillips and pay for the repair
