NEC PaPeRo Personal Robot
NEC started to produce the PaPeRo back in 2001 and since then they have improved the technology with each model. This is the latest version of the PaPeRo personal robot that is designed to live in the home and be a companion. The all new improved model is packed full of advanced features.
It now has echo channel technology that allows the robot to listen and respond to voices accordingly even if the robot is talking at the same time. This allows for a much more normal converstion. With 2 cameras behind it’s eyes it has high levels of recognition allowing the PaPeRo to see, recognise and distinguish human faces. It can also interpret written words and characters and recognise gestures. NEC are working on the PaPe-Jiro model which will bring humour into the robots repertoire.
Since the PaPeRo is networked it can communicate with other PaPeRo’s and also with PDA’s and PC’s. It can also operate other electrical items within the home if it is programmed to do so. The possibilities are endless.
And for those who just like to know the spec of gadgets, the PaPeRo is basically a 1.6Ghz Pentium processor, with 512MB memory, 40Gb HDD, USB connector and 2 PC card slots.
