Sony Ericsson W995 – first 8.1 megapixel Walkman phone

Sony Ericsson has unveiled a brand new Walkman phone named the W995. This new device is the first Walkman branded phone to feature an 8.1 megapixel camera and only the second to feature such a camera (the other is the Cyber-Shot C905).

The Sony Ericsson W995 is a slider phone reminiscent of the W705 and has a 2.6 inch TFT display with accelerometer, 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, a dedicated media player and built-in GPS with A-GPS support.

The 8.1 megapixel camera has autofocus and LED flash and also features image stabilisation, face detection and Geo-tagging; there is also a front mounted VGA camera for video calls. Being a Walkman phone, the W995 features a fully fledged multimedia player, FM radio and a 3.5mm headphone socket; files can be stored on Memory Stick Micro cards (8GB card included in the retail box).

The Sony Ericsson W995 measures 97 x 49 x 15mm and weighs 113 grams, with a battery life of up to 370 hours on standby, 9 hours of talk time and up to 20 hours of music playback. The device will be available in black, silver or red, depending on the network.

Sony Ericsson says that the W995 will be released in the second quarter of 2009; price network availability TBC.

Never been a fan of SE phones they always seem to have a poor build quality which lets the Sony brand down and they seem to break really easily
