Samsung P300 Mobile Phone

Samsung P300 Just when you thought that the VK2000 was the new slim, light mobile phone for you we have to confuse you with another mobile phone that has more gadgets packed into it than the VK2000.

Ok, so it looks like an old Texas Instruments calculator from 1985, but it’s Samsung’s latest mobile phone the size of a credit card. This will certainly prompt other big name manufacturers to start making smaller mobiles, but how small can they go.

The Samsung P300 has a 1.3 mega pixel camera, 90MB worth of flash storage on board and Bluetooth so expect a heavy price tag for the first few months then hopefully it should drop in price. The P300 also features a battery capable of 2.5 hours of talk time, an email client and is able to hold up to 1000 contacts. The only major downside to this mobile is the dated design…we would have expected more from Samsung’s design department. In fact we’d wait until they change the design a bit, or at least bring a black version out which is inevitable.

How ugly is that from Samsung. Given the choice i’d give up the camera and blue tooth and go with the VK2000

The phone looks great! Do you want it to look like all that new hardware currently appearing on the market? Well I prefer it to be unique (or in this case – 1985-calc-like).

  • Tech Lounge 1st November 2005

Martin, I suppose you have a point that being different is beautiful too!

  • Martin 2nd November 2005

Sure that’s what I mean! Show me anything like this phone. There’s nothing like that out there is it? From now on – that’s the phone of my choice!

  • Praxis 2nd November 2005

Currently I am using NEC N930, and really thought VK2000 will be the next target. Not really until I see this P300 which has a vy nice spec!! I do agree with Martin, really prefer to be unique when everyone is having W800i (boring).

I am trying not to like it, but when I read the review and see all the features you can’t help but like it. It has a style all of it’s own.

  • ied 8th November 2005

The Italian website Cellularmania.com is saying this phone also plays mp3s!

Btw, this is a brilliant, elegant design.

When will it be available in the U.S.? Which service provider will feature it?

  • Tech Lounge 8th November 2005

It does seem that the P300 does have an mp3 function as well. There is an mp3 button to the right of the zero key. Thanks Sandy for the extra images.

Does it have a memory card slot? Please say it does, cause in that case I will definitely buy this toy.

  • Oboema 8th November 2005

I don’t care what everybody thinks, This phone rocks. I like the Retro thing they’ve got going on here.

  • Tech Lounge 8th November 2005

Hi Martin, looking at the images on Cellularmania there are some very interesting looking slots/covers on the side of the phone. Also on the images where they have taken a photo there is SF and M on the screen, maybe to do with the extra memory? We’ll keep looking for more info for you

  • Chris 16th November 2005

Alas they sacrificed low weight for features, its almost 20g heavier than the vk2000. Unless someone can come up with weight, price and features i will stick with the vk, after all features really are just a bonus extra, something to play with on a quiet day – now when was the last time i had one of them :)

  • laura 19th November 2005

  • mikey 22nd April 2006

ive owned it for two days and wow, had every top phone going but when people see this there mouths drop and thats the point there is nothing like this phone its even better in the flesh than in pictures i highley recomend this to everyone

  • lyssikissy 23rd April 2006

Is this phone ever going to come onto T-mobile, I hate switching networks.

I like the calculator look… it’s cute. reminds me of the fashion rave over those old old casio watches.

  • wakky 24th April 2006

hey mikey… I got my P300 last week and wow… it really is a show stopper. Not many people have heard about this phone… well not in my local pub anyway. I had the comments about it looking like a calculator (but yeh heard that all before). The size of the phone is really impressive. I love it

  • Richard 27th April 2006

Just got it today – very cool indeed – almost everyone in the shop was asking questions about it, how many more do you have and wanted to hold it! Definitely a crowd puller and I didn’t even intend to buy a phone! Anyway, there is one annoying thing – it beeps everytime you press the navigation keys whilst modifying the settings, etc – anyone know how to turn that off?!!! Otherwise the most revolutionary phone since the v-series (startac replacement) came out – has the same, “OMG I MUST GET ONE IMMEDIATELY! the first time you see it in the flesh” effect! ‘Surprising Samsung’ is my quote of the day.

  • steve 30th April 2006

just ordered mine will give you feed back after I have fully tested it can’t wait, it looks great and i’m sure all my mates will be speechless.

  • Ozzie 2nd May 2006

For people in the UK, its only avaliable at phones 4 you and only on the O2 network, I m getting this phone friday, I think it looks great, completely different to anything on the market.

  • matt 3rd May 2006

i got mine direct from O2…

  • Maria1969 10th May 2006

I have just picked my P300 phone up. Just got home so gonna play with it tomorrow. Car Phone Warehouse are doing it on O2 contract or their “SIM Free”.

So got it SIM Free. I am aiming to use it on T-Mobile, as we allknow CPW phones are all sim free. Check that their supplier has put in UK mains adapter, had a scary moment with the D800. They give you this tatty plug for it.

Only question I have is currently T-mobile not tested on their system so the auto setup for mms not available. Anyone got any ideas?

This is a must have phone. Last week thru CPW joined T-Mobile and got the D800, did not have the mag or the phone in store so did not know it existed. After saw it liked it so much D800 in box, and SIM free P300 bought. No hope eh? LOL

    Cheers

  • man of steel 23rd May 2006

just got my p300 today, what a phone!!
theres a great deal on the onestopphoneshop website, only on 02 but a very good deal.

I know it looks like a calulator but you really have to have this phone in your hand to judge it, it is beautiful. Small thin and has a good weight to it!

  • Wayne 26th June 2006

Can anyone tell me if you can assign your own tune to the text alerts or do Samsung still insist you use their standard 6 ? P.S. Phone looks great not ugly!
