Verdict Research has released a report that says that the sales in computer games will exceed music and video sales in the UK this year. It will be the first time that games will outstrip music and video and shows a shift in consumer attitudes, and that video games are becoming the UK’s most popular type of entertainment.
In the report, Verdict Research predicts that game sales will rise by nearly 42 percent to around £4.64 billion, compared with music and video sales at £4.46 billion. The past five years has seen the video game market explode, more than doubling in value, whilst music sales have stayed relatively steady.
It is thought that the recent growth in game sales this year is due to the launch of major game titles like Call of Duty 4, Grand Theft Auto IV and EA Sports FIFA 09, as well as the growing popularity of the Nintendo Wii.
