iPhone sales are down as Apple announces a rise in profits
After the announcement earlier this week that Apple had made a 26% rise in profits over the same period last year, it seems that the iPhone sales have dropped. Sources inside O2, the exclusive mobile network for the iPhone in the UK, have stated that iPhone sales are down to around 18,000 a week.
It is thought that the latest drop in sales is to do with two new rivals to the iPhone, which will be out in the next couple of weeks. The two devices in question are the G1 Google phone and RIM’s Blackberry Storm, which are set to take on the iPhone head on.
The G1 Google phone is the first to sport Google’s new open source operating system Android and boasts both a touchscreen display and a full QWERTY keyboard. The Blackberry Storm is also a touchscreen Smartphone and is RIM’s first full touchscreen device.
Both devices are due to hit the UK in the next few weeks and look set to take at least a little bit of the iPhones dominance.
