So you’ve just got your new Sky 160 box, yes the 160 stands for the 160 GB Hard Disk Drive, that’s right this Sharp box has 90GB extra.
Here at Techlounge we found the copy to DVD feature is really useful, it takes under 1 minute to copy 1 hour’s worth of TV onto DVD-r. Now that’s fast. Just think of all of those episodes of Lost or Grey’s Anatomy that you could store.
Even if you’re recording the football onto the HDD you can still watch the latest episode of Eastenders. This Recorder is built really well and looks the part sat next to our Sky160 box and surround sound amp.
The only problems that we have found is that the little flap on the remote that lifts up is a little bit flimsy and is likely to get broken easily. This is down to personal preference here but some feel that the buttons on the remote are a little bit too spaced out and aren’t all in reach of your thumb without having to move about a lot. Once you’ve got hang of the remote it is fairly simple to use. If we had to buy this personally it would be very close to the top of our Christmas list.
This sounds the business, but we are all tied into having Sky+ today, and without Sky there isn’t much to record off the TV
Does this unit have a timeslip function?
Hi Alan
This device has a Simultaneous recording and playback hard drive, meaning that while you are recording a programme onto the HDD you can use the playback even before the recording has finished. It has the same sort of flexibility as the Sky+ boxes.
Hope this helps

Does this mean that the unit has twin tuners? Are they digital for receiving the Freeview channels, or analogue only?
Can you copy your DVD’s to the HDD for easy storage !
Carl, as far as I know, this is able to control your skybox using Guide Plus+. I’ve just ordered one – they’re pretty cheap at Empire Direct.
do you know if this machine is multiregion?
I bought one of these. The features are excellent, but it’s bug riddled. Mine crashes regularly, even with the most up-to-date firmware installed.
I cannot recommend one in the slightest.
