Biggest Xbox software update for players rolls out today

The competition between Microsoft and Sony is great news for gamers as the two companies are constantly challenging each other with innovations, all of course to the benefit of the players. Microsoft have answered Sony’s new PS4 firmware beta test by introducing updated software that will see several big changes to their console.

Players will see changes to the dashboard making them able to customise it more, and they have also brought back several old and popular features that they dropped when the New Xbox Experience was introduced.

Important ne changes have been made to the social management on the console which will allow participants to see who is playing in a multiplayer party before they decide if they want to join in. This works by clicking “Chat” to view a friend’s profile and then being able to see who he is playing with before deciding whether to join in or not. There are also improvements to the “friend” suggestion, this includes gamertag with a real name if shared and also gamerpic and an avatar image and the reason they are being suggested to you as gamer friend. The popular Gamerscore leader board is also making a welcome return; this allows you to see how you stand against your friends.

One of the most important changes is to be to now be able to modify pins on the home screen, these can be re-arranged which will make some content available offline. Currently users have seen their dashboard become easily cluttered, under the changes, it is possible to keep sections used the most in place. Tidying up is also now being improved with unwanted games hidden from the “ready to install” page, plus there will also be an integrated avatar store, with free and paid-for items available in your Xbox live replica, this will make it very easy to join Twitch broadcasts directly from a game’s hub page.

The Windows 10 Xbox One app for PC is also going to benefit from a number of these improvements and the desktop version is due to see a new “Compact” mode introduced. As expected we shall see a number of smaller “tweaks” including clearer Xbox News updates through the console. This update by Microsoft is the most significant since the last major one in November, it becomes available to players today and they can then judge for themselves how it compares with the current interface.
