D-link DSM-320 Wireless Media Player

DLink media player For £130 we expected it to be good and given it’s not one of the cheaper brands we thought it would have maybe had some of D-Link’s money spent on it.
First of all we sat it about 15m away from a branded wireless router and a thin stud wall. What we expected was verified with very poor signal. So we were forced to crack open the casing, (yes invalidating our warranty) and moved the antenna cable carefully to the aux port. Casing screwed back up, and hey presto signal strength was instantly better by about 30%.

This wireless media player is built well and certainly looks the part, but streaming videos/movies wirelessly isn’t great as it stutters occasionally on fast chase type scenes. For photos and music its fine, we’d try the wired option but then what is the point of it been wireless.

So now the main question we ask ourselves is, if your plasma or LCD has a normal monitor input, is it worth buying a cheapo PC and sitting that next to the plasma or LCD? Ok so you would need a USB wireless stick but that’s hardly going to break the bank.
