Extended Warranty on Xbox 360 ’s
And about time too… we can hear a great crowd of people shouting. The standard warranty on an Xbox 360 will now be increased from a year to 3 years and will be given free to all customers who experience a problem.
This hasn’t come as a huge surprise now that you think about it, as there were tell tale signs. It was only a couple of weeks ago that Techlounge had to send back one of our Xbox 360’s due to the ring of red lights. Our Xbox 360 was about a month out of warranty but the nice guys at Microsoft said that they would repair it for free for us since it was so close to the warranty period. We thought they were great for doing it… but now we know why.
The decision to extend the warranty on the Xbox’s comes after Microsoft have admitted that there was an unacceptable number of repairs needing to be carried out. The main fault of the Xbox 360 has been the red lights but there have also been overheating issues and disc scratching. The extension of the warranty will cost Microsoft in the region of $1bn.
