Xbox 360 HD DVD release for Christmas

Back in April we reported on the forthcoming Xbox360 HD DVD device that was set to compete with the built in Blu-ray technology that the Playstation 3’s will have.
There has been much speculation as to what the price of these HD DVD peripherals would cost and it has been reported that they will be retailing at $200, so you probably can expect them to sell in the UK at around £150. The HD DVD devices will connect to your Xbox360 via high speed USB and will only be able to play movies. There are no plans to introduce HD DVD games.
The Microsoft HD DVD solution is being marketed as the cheapest solution to play HD DVD movies. A stand alone HD DVD player is costing around around the £500 mark. Since the Xbox360 is using a peripheral rather than an in built device like Sony on the PS3, they believe that it will be better for the consumer. No doubt the release at Christmas will perhaps harm sales of the PS3 as people may be more inclined to go with a known format of drive, rather than the Blu-ray technology.
