Sony DVD Walkman D-VE7000s & DVP-FX810

Sony yesterday unveiled two new “portable cinemas” the D-VE7000S and the DVP-FX810.
The D-VE7000S is shown on the right and is a classy looking tablet design which is barely larger than a DVD case. The D-VE7000S will be lightwieght, compact and come fully supplied with sound isolating walkman headphones, a speaker cradle and with an optional car kit so there is no worry about keeping kids entertained over long trips. The D-VE7000S has a 7 inch LCD screen and will support the following playback disc formats: DVD, DVD±R/±RW, DVD±R dual layer discs, CD, Video CD, CD-R/RW, and supports the commonly-used DivX®, MP3 and JPEG formats.
This will provide users with hassle free multimedia entertainment. Despite the D-VE7000S being very easy to take around it really is quite dissapointing in terms of battery life. With only 3 hours of playback before it runs out.
The DVP-FX810 is the player on the left and is another great looking machine. It’s a clamshell design as most portable players are. This clamshell design provides support for its 8 inch LCD screen which Sony say is visibly better than any other panel of its kind. To keep the screen looking good as new it is protected by a hardened anti-scratch layer. The screen will also have the ability to turn 180 degrees.
Both these player have an anti-shock mechanism’s built into them to give smooth playback in the car, on the train etc. Inside the DVP-FX810 a 12 bit 108MHz video DAC which is more typical of a full domestic scale DVD player. The DVP-FX810 supports all the same playback formats and comes with all the same extras as it’s brother machine except that it comes with a lightweight controller which can be used to keep full control whilst you’re on the go. However the thing that makes the DVP-FX810 truly better than the D-VE7000S is its battery life. The DVP-FX810 has a huge 6 hour battery life, twice that of the D-VE7000S.
There has not yet been a confirmation on the screen resolution or of any release date for either model. But we look forward to hearing more about these DVD Walkmans very soon.
