Touch Screen Video iPod

It was less than 6 months ago that we reviewed the new Video iPod that was hitting the shelves and has become popular with the people who are regularly on the move and like to take entertainment with them.

There is now great speculation on Apple’s launch of a new Video iPod that will incorporate a touch screen. This is due to 2 recent patents that have been filed. One patent for the “operation of a computer with a touch screen interface” and another one for and “integrated sensing display”. Could this be Apple’s own version of Microsoft’s Ultra Mobile PC (Origami)?

It will be Apple’s 30th birthday in April so this could be the time to launch a new product. There is thought that the new video iPod would have a 4 inch screen and maybe come with either the 60GB hard drive or the ability to use compact flash cards. Could the click wheel disappear and be replaced with a virtual onscreen click wheel? We will just have to wait and see over the next few weeks what Apple tell us.

One thing that Apple need to get sorted is the availability of movies through iTunes, but what we do know is that whatever Apple release is cool and ends up turning into a commodity. Who ever would have thought that the standard iPod alone would be such a success.
