Axbo Alarm Clock
Have you got £140 burning a hole in your pocket, if the answers yes then this is the alarm clock for you? The Axbo alarm clock has a unique wake up algorithm which will choose the optimal wake up time for you. All you have to do is to set you’re alarm clock as normal which gives the alarm clock a 30 minute window to wake you up at the best time for you.
The Axbo comes with a cotton wrist band that you wear at night and the alarm clock senses by your movements and monitors how deeply you’re sleeping.
The alarm clock communicates wirelessly with the wristband, if you’re quick you can get the limited edition version, which gets you 2 wristbands. So hopefully you’ll get up every morning feeling great and ready for work, thanks to the Axbo.
This is a really cool alarm clock and if you are waiting for the release of the Blowfly Alarm Clock this may be the one for you.

am not particularly clever so
a) what’s an algorithm
b) so… does it wake you up or does it like… wait till uve slept enough so you’re late for work and therefore it can get u sacked or sumat…

Hi Charlie
To answer a few of your questions
An Algorithm according to WikiPedia is
“a set of well-defined instructions for accomplishing some task”
So basically there are a certain set of rules that the alarm clock has to follow before it wakes you up.
In the review is says that you set the alarm for say 7.30am and the alarm clock then has a 30 minute window to wake you up at the best time to suit your body depending on the movement levels you are having. It will be able to work out if you are in a very deep sleep or near to naturally waking up.
If there isn’t a best time during the 30 minute window it will wake you up at 7.30am, and not let you sleep in over the set time.
I really think it is a great invention and i’d be interested to find out if it makes you feel better about getting up in the morning.

Gary,
I am interested in buying one of these alarm clocks, but seem to unable to find a UK-based website that allows me to buy it online. I was wondering if you could give me a web address where I can buy one.
Regards,
Daniel

Hi Daniel
You can order these from the Axbo site. They still seem to be on a pre-order basis even though it says they would start shipping on the 24th January.
Delivery to the UK is 14.50 Euros.

I think this Axbo is the answer to many people’s problems. How many people do you know that are really grumpy all day if they get woken up when they are not ready. With a standard alarm clock you just have no choice do you. It doesn’t care if you are in a really deep sleep in the middle of an excellent dream… oh no… it just goes off.
If this alarm works and wakes you up as it says at the optimal time then superb. We’ll all be much more refreshed in the morning.

I suppose put into perspective £140 isn’t a vast amount to spend on a gadget these days if it works well. My alarm clock set me back about £30 and many a time I have nearly thrown it against the wall. I bet some people actually do smash them up…so you only need to have damaged 3 or 4 and you’re on your way to justifying an Axbo!
I’d love to know if it actually does work

One other point… does this have a radio on it as I prefer to be woken up by music rather than a beeep.. beeep type alarm noise

Hi
We have been trying to find out whether the Axbo can wake you up with the radio or not… so far we can’t find that out yet… but what we have found are some more details on the Axbo alarm clock that you might like…
1. The Axbo is able to track 2 people and their seperate sleep patterns
2. The Axbo learns over time to adjust it’s settings for your personal sleeping patterns
3. It has 3 melodies that can be played while going to sleep which will help calm you down and help you fall asleep. You don’t need to set these to play for a certain length of time… the Axbo will carry on playing the melody until you are asleep.
4. When the Axbo senses that you are asleep it will turn the display light off, only turning it back on when it senses you are waking up.
5. In case of any electricity outage it will automatically switch to battery back up.
We’re very impressed here at Techlounge.

this is a really clever gadget for a £140. maybe they’ll release a 2nd gen version

Perhaps the alarm actually works via the wristband. That way it can control 2 people at once.

I like when aXbo wakes me up because i always choose sound 4 and it’s a funny sound. Not ennoying at all. My husband likes the sound of the birds (funny, hein?) and this is not disturbing my sleep. Sometimes I don’t even notice that he is leaving the house. I continue sleeping because I have 1 hour more in the morning. Before I always woke up with him. Axbo has changed my mornings for sure!
