Motorola ROKR E1 MotoRokr

Motorola Rokr MotorokrThe Motorola ROKR E1, or the MotoRokr, is the first mobile phone that has dedicated iTunes software on it and surround sound. The benefit of the MotoRokr is that it will sync in with your iTunes on your PC via the USB cable allowing you to quickly transfer a selection of songs onto your mobile phone. Then you can use your MotoRokr as you would your iPod and listen to your music. The MotoRokr handles Mp3, Midi, Wav and ACC files and can store up to 100 songs. The memory on the MotoRokr is expandable with a removeable Transflash memory card up to 512mb. The memory card will allow you to store photos and music on it easily.

As with all Motorola mobile phones you will only get a VGA camera so we are still dissappointed with this level of technology from a top mobile phone manufacturer. Battery life is good though with talktime between 260 - 560 minutes depending on whether you are using the bluetooth headset, handsfree or using the phone normally. Standby time is up to 230 hours, so nearly 10 days. If you are using your MotoRokr to listen to your iTunes then you can expect 15 hours if using the headset or 6 hours play time when using the phone’s surround sound speakers. The MotoRokr does have Bluetooth capability but you have to listen to your music with your wired headset or surround sound speakers.

One well thought about feature on the MotoRokr is the pause feature to the music player if you get an incoming call. This allows you to be able to take the phone call without interupting your favourite song. If you love your music then the surround sound feature on the Rokr will be great for you, and as an additional feature the Rokr has lighting features that will give you that disco feeling! The style on this phone is a little bit of a dissapointment and it seems that Motorola may have overlooked this, plus it could also really do with more onboard memory so that you could store more songs on it without having to reload a new set.

How does it do surround sound? Does it actually have extra speakers?

    Hi Chris
It has 2 speakers either side of the phone that produce the surround sound. I suppose not really surround sound like Dolby 5.1, but more like stereo output! They are 22khz polyphonic speakers apparently.

The idea of the phone is great but the look is abit outdated that is why I’ve chosen another model.
