Orange SPV C550
Techlounge has had two of the SPV C550 mobile smart phones since their release back in mid August. We have noticed some pro’s and cons of this Smart phone.
The four larger buttons instantly tell you what one of these smart phones main feature is, that of a music player. A deeper delve into the phone reveals that you don’t have to use orange media player with the buttons incorporated on the phone but you can change it to Windows media player Version 10, which in our opinion is so much easier to use. Having a 128MB Mini SD card (This is no cheapo card, it’s a San Disk) is all well and good, but stick a few MP3’s on there and some old videos from nights out that you took with your SPV C500 and it soon fills it up. All in all the sound quality is fairly good if you keep it on around 80% but any more and you realise that you’re listening to it on your SPV.
What we do love about the phone though is the clarity of the screen. It is so sharp it’s the very first thing we noticed about it. This is due to the better resolution 240×320 pixels in a 2.2in diagonal screen. We are still undecided though on the joystick, sometimes it seems like it is broken, and just as it is going to select the option that you want, it will all of a sudden go 3 levels deep in the menu option, about to select German for the phone language!!
You may notice a little rubber flap at the bottom protecting the 2.5mm audio jack and the mini USB port. This is good for stopping dirt getting in but was that really such a problem on the C500, the flap now just bugs us so we spend a lot of time pulling it out and pushing it back in hoping not to snap it.
We love the overall design of the phone and the functionality of the SPV. It gives you all of the added value of the calendar and task lists, and will also sync in with your PC to keep you organised.

The only problem that I have had with this phone is the response of the joystick bit. It never goes to where you want it to.
