Nokia 7380

nokia 7380
The Nokia 7380 mobile phone, that we hope to see early in 2006 is from the Nokia L’Amour Collection. This gadget is so much more than a mobile phone as well as an item of great design and style. It is made from etched metal with leather trim. The most stunning feature with this Nokia 7380 is the fact that there is no keypad. It has a rotating dial on the front that controls all of the functions and the screen is disguised as the mirrored front when the phone is not in use.

The thought of not having a familiar keypad for dialing numbers or writing text messages is a bit daunting, but the dial makes it surprisingly easy to find contacts, dial a number, or write a text. The Nokia 7380 has all the additional features that you would expect from a Nokia such as a 2 mega pixel camera, video recorder, FM stereo radio, Mp3 player, internet browser, bluetooth connection, voice activated dialing and a loud speaker. It’s onboard memory is a great 52Mb and battery power is good at 3 hours talktime and 240 hours standby time. It’s dimensions are 114 x 30 x 20 mm and at 80 grams it’s a excellent slim, stylish and light gadget.

This is such a gorgeous mobile phone. This really does stand out from the crowd as mobiles are starting to all look very similiar.
A bit dubious about the dial on the front to do everything with, would seem very odd without any keypad to tap on, but all the info i’ve seen on this phone says that you get used to it.

hmmm… if theres no keypad… how do you text people…

    Hi Charlie
The Nokia 7380 has the rotating dial that you use to dial a number or text a message with. Bit like using the ipod to search for songs etc. Would take a bit of getting used to but once you have mastered it you’ll be off.

how much could i expect to pay for this?

  • kelly 20th April 2006

You can find it on the highstreet and on the web from free on selected network tariffs. If you want it sim free you can expect to pay about £350, although I got one off e-bay unlocked and boxed new for £225. I have used one before and it really is easy to text with….it will predict which letter should follow the one before and learns from your own texting. Many of the features are voice activated also. A great mobile to have.

how do you see what you are doing without a screen

  • Tech Lounge 24th April 2006

    Hi Bob
The screen is disguised as the mirrored front, so you can see what you are doing when you are using the phone

ive got this fone and have had it for about 6 weeks and the rubber around the rotating dial is all peeling off. I took it back to see what could be done, but was told it was general ‘wear and tear’ and i could expect that! also had afew tecnical problems too,e.g. the buttons just stop workin or the dial spins yet nothing happens. maybe as nokia focused on design, they didnt think to make sure it was tecnically sound, but looks like they didnt do too well on design either since all the rubber is peeling off. definetly not worth the hassle!!!

I’ve had my ‘phone for well over a month now and it’s truly excellent, the texting thing was a bit tricky at first, but now it’s manageable, and every other function is well easy to use. To be honest, it’s just so pretty, even if something irritated you about it, when you use it there are so many comments about how fab it looks that you just know that even when you upgrade to a newer more spangly ‘phone in 12 months time, you won’t sell this one on but keep it for those ‘special’ occasions where a chic looking ‘phone matters.

I have had this phone for about 7 months now and I have to admit…..I don’t really use it that much anymore except to occassionally show it off at special occassions! I agree with others that after a couple of months I noticed that the rubber on the spinning dial starts to peel off. I had to quickly buy a second phone d600 which undoubtedly became my first phone. Although it is a very attractive looking phone, it certainly loses that appeal when people see the robber peeling off the dial….not very nice at all. Stick to other less attractive but more useful phones in the future!!!!!
