Sony PSP
Well we’ve all been waiting with baited breathe for the release of the Sony PSP into the UK and it certainly was waiting for. Techlounge had the change of getting an imported Sony PSP back in June so it’s not so new to us here. The design and functionality of this gadget is great. The look of it is so stylish and modern, with its huge, crystal clear 4.5 inch LCD display, transparent side buttons and the sleek black finish, makes it the “need to have” gadget. Just holding the PSP is just perfect, you can imagine how much research went into getting the weight and size right. Retailing out in the UK at around £180, it is reasonable priced in today’s market for this sort of technology.
We have spent many years playing the Playstation, whether it is the original Playstation, the Playstation 1 or the Playstation 2, but the Sony PSP is a great mobile device. The gaming experience on the PSP is second to none with the graphics that gives you the clear screen, making playing your old favourite Playstation games a new experience. The only design feature that could be improved is the joystick, which just isn’t in the right position to enable comfortable gaming. There are about 20 PSP games that have been released to coincide with its launch, with more to follow shortly. If this device takes off as it is expected, Sony will make sure that there are even more games released and converted into the PSP format.
For added bonuses the Sony PSP has a UMD (Universal Media Device) slot where you load your games, but this will also allow you to play movies in UMD format. It has built in infra-red and Wifi giving you extra connectivity and allowing you to browse the internet on the move. A USB connector allows you to recharge your PSP while hooked to your pc and with the headphones and remote control included you have full control over your device.
When gaming on the Sony PSP the only possible downside is the battery life, being only 2 and a half hours. It can be even less if you are playing a game using the Wifi technology. You need to ensure that you carry a spare battery with you on longer journeys to avoid being frustrated if the PSP runs out of battery at that all important moment. One great feature that the PSP has is the hibernation mode that allows you to pause a game and turn off your PSP. When you want to resume your game you just switch the device back on and you are taken instantly back to the point in the game where you left it. All in all a fantastic gadget.
